400-lb. Radio Personality to Lead 40-day Southern California
Walk-A-Thon, "Walk 4 ROCK -- 40 Days of Purpose for Africa"
(Los Angeles, CA) Randy Zachary is a man on a mission. Inspired by Rick Warren’s
challenge for “40 Days of Purpose” and U2 frontman Bono’s plea for help for Africa, the
longtime radio personality is trading his headphones for walking shoes.
Beginning Saturday, September 10, Zachary will lead a group of quite ordinary
people on an extraordinary 40-day trek around Southern California. This effort
will raise funds for food and medicine for famine plagued Africa and an upcoming
a relief outreach to ROCK of Africa Mission, in Zimbabwe.
“Every time I look in the mirror I am reminded of how much food has been
available to me all my life,” explains Zachary. “The contrast between the bounty
we enjoy in America and the need in Africa is so striking I want to encourage
all Americans to say ‘Thank You’ this year in an extraordinary way.” Zachary is
encouraging others to join him in this “ACT of Thanksgiving,” and make this
Thanksgiving, the Thanksgiving of their lifetime by impacting the lives of
hurting children in Africa.
“To look at me at 400 pounds, you would say I am the last person you would
expect to take a 40-day walk for anything,” says Zachary. “But the need in
Africa is so great I can no longer ignore this truly horrific situation. I wish
I had the money to change Africa. I may not have the money, but I have plenty of
extra pounds to give. I guess you could say I’m burning blubber for Africa!”
Zachary is inviting anyone with a heart for Africa to join this effort by
walking for some or all of the journey, or by making a much needed financial
gift. Others interested in converting their excess weight into love for hurting
kids are welcomed to join the project, and take financial pledges per pound lost
or miles walked.
