Friends, Romans, Astros Fans...

TWELVE hours, 20 miles yesterday at Fit One Athletic Club; UN-believable -
never, ever expected to go all the way. I actually walked 6 hours non-stop
(12 miles ), 6am-noon...took a restroom break and walked 'till 2pm. Rode the
bike a couple of hours and walked, 4-6pm. Thanks to owner TONY DELUCA for
walking with me!

JUST LIKE MY TRAINER, MARCUS SANTI SAID, the 39 days leading up to the "Big
Finish" were preparation for yesterday - to push myself beyond what I
thought I could do.

Suddenly, it's over...not to worry, I'm not going out for a celebratory
pizza tonight. 40 days of "sobriety" from sugar and fast food is the
immediate benefit from this walk. GOD has other things in store as
well..some we'll know about, others we won't.

REMINDER FOR THOSE OF YOU IN LA, TONIGHT is the benefit concert for
Walk4ROCK at Hogue Barmichaels in Newport Beach..starts at 6pm, lots of top
LA area bands. Details at www. Walk4ROCK.org. Thanks to Tina, Nick, Regina
and Christie for all their HARD WORK...to Glen Megill,
for infecting me with the Africa "bug".

ONE MORE TIME ( for now )...PLZ pray about helping us HELP Africa. You may
give online at www.Walk4ROCK.org..... If I learned anything this past 40
days, it's that "losing our lives" to find them is PAINFUL, but mandatory
for any who would be a CHRIST FOLLOWER...

Rick Warren said it best ( go figure ) - "ARE YOU WILLING TO LIVE SIMPLY SO
THAT OTHERS MAY SIMPLY LIVE?" Go ahead, fast Starbucks for a month.....

the VALUE of ABIDING in the WORD....one of the benefits is, we begin to HATE
"wrong paths". Just as i read that, they brought in the doughnuts...TALK
ABOUT AN EXAMPLE! Eating what I know to be BAD for me is a "wrong

Went to Saddleback Church today...wow...sat in an overflow room watching
Rick Warren on a TV.
He spoke about helping the poor. He asked this question...

"Are you willing to live SIMPLY, so that others may SIMPLY LIVE live?"
Powerful.

One of the things in that article on RICK and KAY WARREN in Christianity
Today that struck me was that because of the money they've made with THE
PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE, he has paid back his salary to the church for the past
20 years...AND they "reverse tithe" - give away 90%, and live on 10%....

We met with Steve Ruttenbar, the MISSIONS pastor at Saddleback, sharing my
40 day journey...they are in the middle of "40 Days of PEACE - Personal,
Local, and Global"...for more info check out www.saddleback.org.

I wrapped up the OC leg of the Walk today, and am flying back to Chico

Okaaaay....I'm tired.

We walked a warm up 2 miles early and then 5.4 miles from the Huntington
Beach Pier to the Newport Beach Pier...7.4 total miles. The thing that kept
me going was knowing there is a Sharkeez Sports, ah, restaurant at the
Newport Pier. We got there in time to watch most of the 2nd half of the
USC-Arizona game!

On the way, we met "John the Baptist" hanging out at the beach..

....a homeless guy who had a cross stuck in the beach. He came up to me and
hugged me - I found myself pulling away, he was so dirty....he proceeded to
talk to us, and BLEW US AWAY. He was inspiring and FOR REAL...he prayed for
us, and we were on our way...a MODERN DAY JOHN THE BAPTIST, talking to
people who walk along the beach boardwalk...wow...

another day on this amazing journey.

Tomorrow, we attend Saddleback, joining them for their 40 Days of PEACE
...and then I will walk thru Lake Forest & Mission Viejo, hoping to
get in another 5-6 miles.

Christie, thank you for walking with me...keeping me entertained with tales
of Africa! Knees hurt today; gonna ice 'em down.

2nd Installment today...

Many of you have asked me why all of a sudden I'm obsessed with Africa; it's
hard to explain, I just "got it" one day and can't IGNORE what I now know
now...in a recent CHRISTIANITY TODAY article, KAY WARREN explains her
epiphany...

"In that moment, God shattered my heart; He just took my heart and put it
through a woodchipper...my heart came out the other side in more pieces than
I could gather back up in my arms...it changed the direction of my life. I
will never be the same. Never. I can never go back - I became a seriously
disturbed woman."

THAT DESCRIBES what happened to me in several hours of phone conversations
with ROCK OF AFRICA Director, Glen Megill. If I allow my self to dwell on
it, I'm "undone", I weep uncontrollably.

In an interesting footnote, when Kay told her husband Rick about her burden,
he said, "That's great, honey, I'll support you, it's not my vision." LOOK
WHAT SHE STARTED. The link to the article is below....

Again with the rhyming....

Wrapping up my tour of Chico...tomorrow, I'll be walking from PV High on
East Ave to Highway 32...look for the sweaty dude w/ the Zimbabwean flag!

Monday thru Wed,  I'll be walking in Sacramento, have emailed and faxed
TV/radio stations there.
Got in a GREAT 2 hours walking  this morning... great, 'cuz I'm getting
better at prayer-walking...clearing my head of "chatter", and letting Jesus
sink stuff into my heart....

We all came into this with expectations; God, as is often the custom,
lovingly ignores our expectations and does His thing, ALWAYS in our best
interest. I was whining to our Walk4ROCK team the other day, and Regina
pointed out what God HAS done -

1. Allowed me to walk, virtually PAIN FREE ( after the 1st week! )...
2. Gave me MARCUS, to help me eat right ( and watch football at Sharkeez
with )...
3. Made folks more aware of the desperation in Africa....
4. Drew me out of my comfort zone, to walk, and literally save my life...

Thank you, Jesus....and Regina.

If you're feeling un-loved, overlooked, worried  about the future, I DARE
you to take time several minutes a day, and repeat this  phrase over and
over..."Abba, I belong to you."  Seven syllables that WILL CHANGE your
life....

Gotta go get a massage from Chico Therapy and Wellness!

Days are flying by, again I'm surprised to find the walking so easy...once I
pushed through the 1st week where my body was screaming for me to stop, it
has gotten easier every day. It feels so good to feel my muscles again!

Eating has been another area of victory....I haven't had a soda or candy bar
in almost 3 weeks! I fit in a pair of jeans yesterday, I haven't fit it for
a year...SELF-CONTROL feels good! As we have said, at the very least, this
project is a self-induced "fat camp". Hopefully, we help Africa, as well.

Regarding the fundraising effort, its SLOW...Africa was a hard-sell before
Katrina & Rita - these days, it's much tougher....AWARENESS is being raised,
though, and that's good. SEVERAL NEW FOLKS are going to Africa with us over
Thanksgiving.

THE IMMEDIATE NEED is $20,000 for 2 containers of food and medicine, and
related expenses. These containers are the ones we NEED for THANKSGIVING.
Pray about helping....call me for more info...(714) 497-8518.

"Christianity over the past 2 thousand years has moved from a tribe of

become participants in an insurrection. To claim we believe is simply not
enough - the call of Jesus demands action. Jesus is calling us to places

Met with Aaron Cohen again yesterday, the human rights activist, leaving
TODAY for Cambodia to actually FREE children who are sexual slaves. He will
be accompanied by actress Daryl Hannah and PEOPLE Magazine.

He was sharing with me the process....going in to brothels, posing as a sex
tourist, identifying how many children are working there..then signaling the
Special Forces to rescue them! He's pumped about the Walk for Africa, and
will be helping us when he returns in a couple of weeks!

Looks like the t-shirts might be taken care of (PTL)...still need an RV, and
sponsors for printing of posters, cards, flyers, etc...

This adventure is driving me deeper still...I'm realizing how shallow much
of my "Christian walk" has been...meeting guys like Aaron Cohen and Erwin
McManus have been life-changing.

We're putting the finishing touches on a flash presentation email, will send
when done...I'LL BE BACK IN CHICO TONIGHT FOR A FEW DAYS, MC-ing the
concert tomorrow night w/ Randy Stonehill...

Luv All,
